Marijuana: My goal is LEGALIZATION!

Marijuana has been a very controversial topic for years, debating on whether or not it should be legal. Some states have legalized the use of medical marijuana. 18 states have passed laws on legalizing medicinal. These states are: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, DC, Delaware, Hawaii, Maine, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington. Each year, more than 800,000 people are arrested for marijuana and the vast majority of them are for simple possession. Approximately 88% of people charged with marijuana violations were charged for possession only. The remaining percentage were charges for sale or manufacture. First off, marijuana is generally not as harmful as alcohol or tobacco if used in moderation. If you abuse alcohol or cigarettes or caffeine, then you will develop some sort of health problem. Marijuana was tested to see how much a person would need to smoke to cause death or some major health issue and the results were that the individual would die with too much intake but not because of the drug, the death would be caused by carbon monoxide poisoning. There are some issues with the experiment that I think is just dumb. One, they used monkeys as test dummies and kept them in an enclosed area. They had these monkeys smoking joint after joint consuming a ridiculous amount of marijuana in a day that not even the biggest pothead would smoke that much. It's unrealistic.

Pro Marijuana:

-Limiting the use the drug is intrudes on personal freedom! Even if the drug is shown to be harmful, isn't it the right of every person to decide what harms them? Marijuana is generally thought of a "victimless crime" meaning only the user is being harmed. You can't legislate morality when people disagree about what is considered "moral".

-We all know that all illegal drugs are high in price because of production, transportation, and selling has high risks. Some people develop drug habits or addictions and those people have to come up with the money somehow. Unless these people are wealthy, most of them commit crimes to come up with the money. Legalization would reduce the number of these crimes being committed and the price of marijuana would be less expensive.

-It is a proven fact that marijuana has medical benefits, which is why in some states medical marijuana is legal. Marijuana is most known in treating cancer patients going through chemotherapy. People who need marijuana for treatment and aren't in any of the states that have legalized it, then technically we are depriving those people of getting medical help! If we just made marijuana legal in every state, everyone who needs the drug can get it.
Marijuana helps cancer patients!!
Marijuana treatment for chronic neuropathic pain!
-Currently, if someone screws you over in a drug trade, there aren't any lawyers or police to legally settle the dispute. You have to settle the dispute on your own which often leads to violence. If legalized, there would be a proper means to settle disputes.

-Marijuana can be a source of additional tax revenue. A huge amount of money is being raised through government taxation of alcohol, cigarettes, and other "sins". If marijuana was legalized, it could be another item being taxed bringing in even more revenue. I'm damn sure the government would not have a problem spending that extra money too.

-Let's not forget the War on Drugs, which is an expensive failure, having to support resources to the DEA, FBI, and border security. Most of us agree that this war is going nowhere and wasting money for nothing. Well that's true but don't forget the costs of police officers, judges, public defenders, prosecutors, juries, court reporters, prison guards, and so on. The legalization of marijuana would allow those people to concentrate on more important things like terrorism, harder drugs, rape, murder, etc. Jails are being filled up with people who simply had possession.

-We all have guilty pleasures. They make life worth living. Some of these pleasures; coffee, sex, alcohol, cigarettes, etc; are potentially harmful if abused. Even pizza and donuts are harmful to a person if not had in moderation. Would you want to give up all these things for the rest of your life? Would you want someone telling you what you can and can't have when it's only your body being affected? Most likely not.
Marijuana not as bad as cigarette smoke!

-Guess what, marijuana can be used for a whole bunch of things. The plant can be used for construction and thermal insulation materials, paper, dynamite, composites for automobiles, even insect repellent! We shouldn't limit the use of such a diverse product just because ONE use of it is found objectionable by some people.

With all that information I just told you, here are some reasons marijuana should not be legal:
-Marijuana is often used as a stepping stone drug, leading to the use of some harder drugs like heroin, cocaine, LSD, etc.
Marijuana "Gateway Effect" Overblown!!!
-Stoned driving and other dangers would be increased. Some say there's always the possibility that the lapse of judgment caused by marijuana use would lead to harder crimes like rape or robbery.
-In many religions, they prohibit the use of intoxicating substances because it is not "moral".
-Legalization would increase the chances of the drug falling into the hands of kids.
-People who produce, sell, traffic, or sell or use illegal drugs have already established themselves as people who would break the law. So anyone who commits drug related crimes are likely to commit other crimes that are more serious. If these people are in jail for drug related charges, they won't be able to go out and commit other crimes. If they can be imprisoned for something, society is much better off.
-It has been disputed whether or not marijuana causes brain damage. Most researches have found that brain damage caused by marijuana is memory loss and difficulty in problem solving.
-Legalization of marijuana can lead to the legalization of harder drugs or drugs altogether.

Some celebrity stoners
Cameron Diaz: Stated that she bought weed from Snoop Dogg in high school.
Justin Timberlake: “As the others trickle in, Kedulka and I whip out pre-rolled joints from an Amsterdam coffee shop. ‘I can't believe I forgot how much fun this is,’ Timberlake says before taking another drag from a joint mixed with exotic White Widow, AK-47 and Kali buds. “ Why do I feel like I’m reading High Times"
Jennifer Aniston: "I enjoy smoking cannabis, I see no harm in it"
Matthew McConaughey: He was arrested in 1999 for possession.
Steve Martin: "I used to smoke marijuana. But I'll tell you something: I would only smoke it in the late evening. Oh, occasionally the early evening, but usually the late evening - or the mid-evening. Just the early evening, midevening and late evening. Occasionally, early afternoon, early midafternoon, or perhaps the late-midafternoon. Oh, sometimes the early-mid-late-early morning. . . . But never at dusk."
Barack Obama: "Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it". "When I was a kid I inhaled frequently, that was the point". obama.jpg

Other celebrities that have smoked marijuana:
Al Gore, Bill Clinton, Pierce Brosnan, Woody Harrelson, Steven King, Bill Murray, Montel Williams, Bill Maher, Jack Black, Lady Gaga, Steve-O, Michael Bloomberg, Bush family, Aaron Carter, Matt Damon, Ford family, Morgan Freeman, Paris Hilton, Bob Marley and too many more to name!

Hemp could be key to zero-carbon houses!! We're always talking about ways we can go green and help save the planet, well here's a good way! It only takes 3 to 4 months for a field of hemp about the size of a rugby pitch to grow and make a typical 3 bedroom house!
Hemp house put to test! Every part of the hemp plant can be used! The shiv is used for building, fibers can make car panels, clothing and paper, and the seeds can be used for food or oil. There's no waste! It can help us out with the oil situations we have going on now. We can stop the wars, stop begging other countries for oil, create our own oil, prices of gas will drop, everything would be better.
Helping the economy! Legalizing marijuana would save the government $7.7 billion a year!! That's incredible. If the government put a tax on marijuana, it would bring in $6.2 billion! In this article, it states that illegal marijuana is making the government broke and drug dealers rich. And this is so true. The government is putting so much money into keeping marijuana illegal and it's distracting them of realizing how much money it could bring in and save our collapsing economy! Not only could it bring us out of this recession, it would create more jobs! If marijuana was legalized it would keep the youth doing legal work instead of being drawn to selling drugs because it brings in a huge amount of money. Our police would also be used for more serious crimes, it saves a bunch of jobs. Remember the prohibition of alcohol? It made alcohol illegal but it still wasn't removed from the U.S. It actually made people drink other things that were more harmful for them and it made organized crime a lot of money. The prohibition of alcohol was a failure, and the prohibition of marijuana isn't going so great either.

Highway-Fatalities-thumb-640x569.jpegIf marijuana really caused car accidents like alcohol does, then wouldn't the number increase and not decline like it is now? Marijuana use is growing every year, and the highway fatalities are diminishing.

Marijuana causes brain damage: FALSE! None of the medical tests currently done to detect brain damage in humans have found harm from marijuana.
Legalizing marijuana would cause carnage on the highways: FALSE! States that have reduced penalties for marijuana possession experienced a rise in marijuana use and a decline in alcohol consumption and with that, highway accidents have decreased.
Marijuana is highly addictive:FALSE! Tobacco has a 90% addiction rate while marijuana is less addictive than caffeine! To the parents, teachers, government, etc. before you say marijuana is addictive, get to know the facts! Ask teens why they use it, how it makes them feel, someone who has experienced using marijuana too much. It's not THC that is addictive, at all, it's the feeling you get when you smoke! Some people with depression or anxiety or stress turn to marijuana and get hooked to the way it makes them feel! It's not the drug. Take it from me, I had depression and I liked the way marijuana made me forget about all my problems, so i kept smoking it and I got lazy. I didn't use it in moderation, but I should have. The drug is not addictive or bad, some people suffering from depression shouldn't turn to marijuana, instead they should probably get help with their depression and then when that's solved they can go back to smoking marijuana in moderation. Like for example: after a long tiring day at work, you can sit down, smoke a joint and relax! The words of Bob Marley, "Alcohol makes you drunk, marijuana is to meditate".
Myths!
